The Manufacturing Process of SS 202

Chromium-Manganese-Nickel based stainless steel, also known as grade 202 is machinable at low temperatures. As a result of the machinability of grade 202 stainless steel, the chips are long and gummy. Annealing can be performed as well. For full martensite transformation, the material must be immersed at 1038°C (1900°F) for 30 minutes and cooled below 16°C (60°F) afterwards. Typically, the material can be joined by fusion or resistance welding; oxyacetylene welding is not recommended for this steel. ER630 is the recommended filler metal. It is possible to pre-soak for 1 h at 1177°C (2150°F) before forging. The temperature of the forging burns out at lower than 1010°C (1850°F).
