What is Grade 321 Stainless Steel EFW Pipe?

Stainless Steel is available in various grades and specifications based on diverse industrial needs. While Grade 321 Stainless Steel EFW Pipe is no different. It is a type of austenitic stainless steel; due to its stabilized form of titanium, it is highly resistant to Intergranular corrosion. Also known as IGC, this corrosion occurs preferentially at grain boundaries or adjacent zones, with little or no attack on the grain itself. Other than holding excellent corrosion resistance, this grade also has high-temperature resistance, making it ideal for industries like power plants, heat exchangers and chemical industries.

Pipes made from stainless steel via electric fusion welding are known as stainless steel EFW Welded Pipes. A high voltage electrical current is passed onto a material to heat and melt it during electric fusion welding.

Which Industries use 321 Stainless Steel EFW pipes?

Pressure vessels and boilers benefit from 321's higher creep and stress rupture properties. Due to its high temperature and intergranular corrosion resistance, SS 321 is used in the following industries.

EFW Welded Pipes Manufacturer

  • Petrochemical

  •  Oil & Gas

  •  Air Craft

  •  Nuclear Power Plant

  • Jet engine parts

  •  Breweries

  •  Chemical

  •  Petrochemical

  •  Heat Exchangers

  •  Defence

  •  Mining

  •  Construction

How is Grade 321 made?

321 stainless materials cannot be hardened through heat treatment, only cold working. All standard methods easily weld it, and post-weld annealing is not required. This product is ductile and can be formed with ease. Stainless steel 321 pipes are not rolled or hardened by heat treatment; instead, only cold treatment is used in manufacturing. However, it works in all extreme conditions. It is not ideal to use it in around chloride material.

How EFW and ERW are different?

An EFW steel pipe is an electric fusion welded steel pipe, while an ERW steel pipe is an electric resistance welded steel pipe. When it comes to their application, they are utilized in a variety of engineering projects.

An EFW pipe is formed by heating the metal in the electrode through electric fusion until it melts.EFW is prominently used for welding steel sheets with high power density and metals quickly heated at high temperatures. Since the heat-affected zone is exceptionally tiny, deep penetration welding is achievable. The entire process is incomplete without X-rays

ERW (Electrical Resistance Welding) pipes are made by cold forming steel coil into a round cylindrical shape. At first, an AC was used to heat the edges.

ERW pipes are used in mountain & coastal areas due to their resistance to rust and corrosion at sea level. They are also used mainly in the infrastructure industry. Whereas EFW pipes are used in the Textile, Oil and gas, pharmaceutical and fluid pipe industry

What is the Difference Between SS 304 and SS 321

In essence, 304 stainless steel is the foundation for 321 stainless steel. They differ by the amount of titanium component added. Their carbon content is what makes a real impact. The higher the carbon content, the greater the yield strength. Due to its superior mechanical qualities, 321 stainless steel is advantageous in environments with high temperatures. 321 stainless steel is more ductile and resistant to stress fracture than 304 alloys. Additionally, intergranular corrosion and anti-sensitization are two other applications for 304L.
